Green and Blue Mismatched Howlite and Glass Skull Earrings
These skull earrings are full of character and would make a great everyday piece. Whenever I see howlite skulls, I am reminded of Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. This vibrant, beautiful event is a Mexican holiday celebrated on November 1st and 2nd to honour and remember deceased loved ones. It's a vibrant and joyful celebration, not a mournful one, where families welcome back the spirits of their departed for a brief reunion. This celebration blends pre-Hispanic rituals with Spanish Catholic traditions. I personally feel so connected to this festival and love the message behind it, that death is just as much a part of life as living. Although our loved ones are beyond the veil, they are not gone forever, nor are they forgotten. These earrings make the perfect little reminders of that, and would be a great conversation piece. I like that they match, yet their shades are different, one is green and one is blue, showing that life may not be perfect, and there's a real beauty in that.
Blue and green howlite are dyed version of white howlite, rumoured for its calming and communication-enhancing properties. It's associated with the throat chakra, promoting clear communication, emotional expression, and inner peace. It is also believed to reduce stress, anxiety, and anger.
Under the howlite skulls sit small blue glass beads. Blue glass is particularly used in stained-glass or as an evil eye amulet, as it carries a range of symbolic meanings. Generally, it represents heaven, hope, sincerity, and piety, often associated with the Virgin Mary. It can also symbolize truth, clarity, and communication, particularly in the context of sea glass. In other contexts, blue glass, like the evil eye amulet, is believed to offer protection against negativity.
These beads have been cleansed and are ready for their next home. I have taken them from broken jewellery, and some have been bought from ethically sourced places. This bracelet will come in plastic free packaging to lessen the harm to Mother Earth.
