Red Coral Root Chakra Bracelet
Coral is one of my favourite natural materials to work with. Each piece is like a fingerprint, unique with its swirls, lines, and dimples; no two are the same, and each tells a story of life below the waves in a world so different from life on land. Red coral beads are made from the skeletal remains of marine organisms, called coral polyps. These polyps, when they die, leave behind a hard, branch-like structure made of calcium carbonate. This structure is harvested, cut, and polished into beads. The red colour is naturally occurring, often due to carotenoid pigments. To me, coral represents rebirth and the beauty of the lifecycle, like death is not truly the end, but the beginning of something new.
Red Coral material is highly favoured for its durability and wonderful, rich colour. Red Coral was used for jewellery in ancient Egypt and was a very popular gemstone in the Victorian era. Red Coral is believed to help instil a sense of confidence and courage within its wearers, helping to overcome fears and obstacles. In some cultures, it is also believed that Red Coral helps ward off evil spirits, promotes vitality, and even fertility! I personally use it when I need a boost of courage, and I love the history behind it. Its vibrant red colour also ties to the Root chakra, the first of the seven main chakras and is associated with the element of earth. This chakra is linked to feelings of security, stability, and grounding in the physical world. When wearing and/or meditating with something red, it is believed to invoke the Root chakra and help you channel it.
These beads have been cleansed and are ready for their next home. I have taken them from broken jewellery, and some have been bought from ethically sourced places. The elastic thread is jewellery-grade elastic and DOES contain plastic, but I'm using up my supply before I switch to sustainably sourced elastic to save the whole reel from entering a landfill. This bracelet will come in plastic-free packaging to reduce harm to the environment, and it will fit most wrist sizes.
